How Ismiyati turned adversity into opportunity

Ismiyati’s bakery, Super Roti, started in 2011 in her kitchen as a way to make ends meet after her husband was laid off. At the beginning, Super Roti offered various bread types made from wheat flour, bananas, chicken, pizza, and doughnuts. However, Ismiyati faced challenges when she approached modern retailers, as she didn’t offer anything unique. She then decided to research what Indonesians needed and found that they were looking for food that supported immunity and was healthy. She started making bran bread, which would become Super Roti’s specialty.

Despite the initial challenges, Super Roti thrived thanks to Ismiyati’s determination and perseverance. She began to use Saf-instant Gold yeast, Baker’s Bonus 1, and Ibis Blue, which helped her bread rise nicely and sell well. She even won Indonesia’s Best Souvenir competition due to her bran bread. Whenever Ismiyati wanted to develop a new product, she consulted with Lesaffre’s bakers, who provided solutions to improve her bread. They also gave her support and training that helped her business grow.

With the help of Saf-instant and Lesaffre, Ismiyati achieved her dream of owning a successful bakery in Semarang, Indonesia. She plans to expand her business by opening a kind of special partnership franchise for bran bread, catering to fans outside Java.
